As the spin-offs of The Walking Dead have concluded, it is time to evaluate the main storyline that the writers are trying to convey. With the conclusion of The Walking Dead, The Ones Who Live, and the completion of Rick Grimes’ story, we believe it is time to review it. We will also be making predictions about what lies ahead for Rick and the Grimes family.
The main showrunner, Scott Gimple, has stated, “Yeah, I do have dreams of merging this all together.” This indicates that there are significant plans for the future of the show. This also sets the stage for Rick to once again take the spotlight in an official finale encompassing all the show’s narratives.
In order to make a reliable prediction, we must examine the journey Rick has embarked on thus far. Many fans are up to speed with Rick’s storyline up until his departure from the show. When we last saw Rick, it was in the middle of season 9 in the episode “What Comes After.” In this episode, many of his friends betray him due to their disapproval of his decision to spare Negan. When he reaches the bridge under construction with a horde of zombies approaching, he chooses to detonate the bridge with himself on it. Subsequently, Jadis calls her enigmatic allies, who rescue her and an injured Rick in a helicopter.
Rick’s next appearance is in the show’s final episode, presented in a flashback. Through this flashback, we discover that the drawing Rick left behind, later found by Michonne, was a remnant of a failed attempt to escape. The subsequent show reveals that over five years, Rick made various efforts to escape, even resorting to self-amputation. Upon being offered a high-ranking position in the new group he is part of, Rick accepts. However, Jadis warns him that if he attempts to escape, she will betray him to the group, risking his and his family’s safety.
Michonne eventually locates Rick and persuades him to confront the malevolent faction within the group that is causing harm to innocent people. Together, they dismantle the corrupt part of the group, leading to Rick’s reunion with his family. This unexpected conclusion left many fans astonished and puzzled, as it contradicted prevailing theories regarding the universe’s ultimate fate.
Numerous fans, myself included, anticipated a scenario where all characters and groups from the main and spin-off shows would unite to combat the CRM. With this outcome unrealized, speculation now arises concerning who or what will emerge as the final antagonist in the series, given that the CRM was presumed to be the most formidable and advanced group in the universe.
I postulate that a scientifically advanced group possessing the cure exists but refrains from using it as they prefer the current state of the world. I envision a scenario where all groups collaborate to secure the virus cure. Regarding Rick, I anticipate him assuming leadership of this amalgamated coalition of communities, potentially culminating the series.
