State Parks in New Jersey are an amazing place to kick off the outdoor adventures this spring. Cheesequake State Park is a unique stretch of land that lies in the changing of biomes. It sits amidst open fields, saltwater and freshwater marshes, an Atlantic white cedar swamp, pine barrens habitats, and a northeastern hardwood forest. Hiking trails scattered throughout the park offer difficulty levels for experienced hikers and families alike. Additionally, Liberty State Park offers beautiful views of the Hudson River and the New York skyline alongside a memorial. The park memorializes the names of those who lost their lives in the attack of 9/11 in a beautiful art piece called “Empty Sky.”
Looking for something a bit more engaging and thrilling? Lakota Wolf Preserve is a great place to start. “In their pack, they have four different packs of wolves, and five other animals {bobcats, foxes, and a lynx}, who are all free to roam on the acres of property in their respective areas,” says a blog post from “Hoboken Girl.” The grounds are inviting, and the trip is a must-do for young children, or even kids at heart! Another must-do is New Jersey’s very own Grounds for Sculpture. It is a peaceful walking trail with stunning, thought-provoking, and meaningful art pieces scattered throughout the 42 acres of property. “The park’s exhibits include sculptures by distinguished artists Clement Meadmore, Anthony Caro, Beverly Pepper, Kiki Smith, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Boaz Vaadia, and New Jersey sculptor George Segal,” according to a Wikipedia post. The stunning sculptures can be seen set in front of beautiful, lush gardens as the trail winds through the park.
