Spring Escapades in NJ

New Jersey residents are ready to leave behind the dreary, cloudy winter and jump into the flowery spring ahead. Warm weather invites everyone to step outside and go for a walk or even an adventure! New Jersey’s parks and great outdoors offer an abundance of activities from relaxation to challenging trails in the green forests. Spring is a time to take in the beauty of nature and all it provides. Join the rest of New Jersey and discover the alluring local parks and outdoor experiences.

State parks are a great place to start when looking for something fun to explore. Here in New Jersey, state parks are lush with greenery or industrially inspired, and both are perfect for a few hours of fun. An uphill hike through Cheesequake State Park or a memorial park is the perfect activity to start the warm weather adventures. Looking for a unique animal experience? Lakota Wolf Preserve might spark an interest. Even a calm walk through Grounds for Sculpture is an exciting and must-do venture this spring. Grab some water and explore the local New Jersey community.

State Parks in New Jersey are an amazing place to kick off the outdoor adventures this spring. Cheesequake State Park is a unique stretch of land that lies in the changing of biomes. It sits amidst open fields, saltwater and freshwater marshes, an Atlantic white cedar swamp, pine barrens habitats, and a northeastern hardwood forest. Hiking trails scattered throughout the park offer difficulty levels for experienced hikers and families alike. Additionally, Liberty State Park offers beautiful views of the Hudson River and the New York skyline alongside a memorial. The park memorializes the names of those who lost their lives in the attack of 9/11 in a beautiful art piece called “Empty Sky.”

Looking for something a bit more engaging and thrilling? Lakota Wolf Preserve is a great place to start. “In their pack, they have four different packs of wolves, and five other animals {bobcats, foxes, and a lynx}, who are all free to roam on the acres of property in their respective areas,” says a blog post from “Hoboken Girl.” The grounds are inviting, and the trip is a must-do for young children, or even kids at heart! Another must-do is New Jersey’s very own Grounds for Sculpture. It is a peaceful walking trail with stunning, thought-provoking, and meaningful art pieces scattered throughout the 42 acres of property. “The park’s exhibits include sculptures by distinguished artists Clement Meadmore, Anthony Caro, Beverly Pepper, Kiki Smith, Magdalena Abakanowicz, Boaz Vaadia, and New Jersey sculptor George Segal,” according to a Wikipedia post. The stunning sculptures can be seen set in front of beautiful, lush gardens as the trail winds through the park.

New Jersey is home to so many beautiful parks and experiences that come to life in spring. So why not take advantage of the gorgeous weather and take a quick trip to these handpicked destinations in the local area! Spring has sprung, and so should the cravings for the great outdoors. These ventures are spontaneous and fun-filled day trips waiting to happen this spring of 2024.
